Alpha-1 Microglobulin
Explanation: Alpha-1-microglobulin (A1M) is a small protein produced mainly in the liver and found throughout the body. It acts as a natural antioxidant by binding and breaking down harmful substances like free radicals and heme (a component of hemoglobin), thereby protecting cells and tissues from oxidative damage. A1M is transported to and broken down by the kidneys.
Test Purpose:
- Monitor kidney function.
- Assess the body’s capacity for handling oxidative stress or tissue damage
