Test your
Cystatin C
Looking for an easy way to test and monitor your Cystatin C?
It's included in the HealthieOne Disease-Specific test.
Cystatin C
Explanation: Cystatin C is a protein produced by most cells in the body and consistently produced and freely filtered by the kidneys, making its levels inversely related to kidney function. Unlike creatinine, cystatin C levels are less influenced by factors such as body mass, age, sex or race, making it an accurate marker for kidney function.
Test Purpose:
- Evaluate kidney function, particularly in individuals where creatinine measurements may be less reliable, such as very obese, older adults, or malnourished individuals.
- Provide an alternative method for estimating glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) that is less affected by muscle mass compared to creatinine-based calculations, such as hospitalized individuals who have a rapidly changing muscle mass.
- Monitor kidney disease progression and response to treatment.
