Neopterin

Looking for an easy way to test and monitor your Neopterin?
It's included in the HealthieOne Disease-Specific test.

Neopterin

Explanation: Neopterin is a small molecule produced by the immune system when it's activated to fight infections or inflammation. Specifically, it's released by certain white blood cells such as macrophages when they're stimulated during immune responses. Neopterin levels in the blood rise during viral infections, certain bacterial infections, and inflammatory conditions like autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This makes it a useful marker for monitoring how active the immune system is and tracking certain types of infections or immune disorders.

Test Purpose:

  • Detect activation of the immune system in response to infection or inflammation like in autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
  • Help distinguish between viral and bacterial infections.
