24,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D
Explanation: 24,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D is a compound produced in the body when vitamin D is broken down. It is formed from 25-hydroxyvitamin D through the action of the enzyme CYP24A1. Measuring levels of 24,25-dihydroxyvitamin D can help assess how the body processes vitamin D and identify certain genetic conditions affecting this.
Test Purpose: Screen for mutations in the CYP24A1 gene, which can lead to elevated calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcemia) and urine (hypercalciuria) not related to parathyroid hormones thyroid issues.
