2-Hydroxybutyric acid
Explanation: 2-Hydroxybutyric acid is a small molecule naturally produced in the body during the breakdown of protein and fat for energy. It typically exists in low levels in the blood and urine. Elevated levels can indicate problems with energy production in cells, or oxidative stress in the body. Elevated 2-hydroxybutyric acid is also often associated with early stages of insulin resistance and impaired glucose regulation.
Test Purpose:
- Detect early signs of insulin resistance and pre-diabetic conditions
- Evaluate patients with unexplained metabolic disorders or lactic acidosis
