Explanation: 3-Hydroxyhexadecenoylcarnitine is a compound naturally produced in the body during the breakdown of fatty acids for energy. It plays a role in energy metabolism. Elevated levels of 3-Hydroxyhexadecenoylcarnitine can indicate disruptions in fatty acid metabolism, most commonly associated with fatty acid oxidation disorders  such as LCHAD deficiency.

Test Purpose: Detect long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders, particularly LCHAD deficiency.
