Decenoylcarnitine
Explanation: Decenoylcarnitine is a compound formed during the breakdown of fatty acids for energy production. It is produced when the body processes specific fatty acids during normal metabolism. When fatty acid oxidation pathways are disrupted, decenoylcarnitine can accumulate in the blood and tissues. Elevated levels are particularly associated with medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency.
Test Purpose: Screen for medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency and related fatty acid oxidation disorders.
