Explanation: Homocitrulline is a naturally occurring amino acid in the body often during inflammation or in conditions where urea levels are elevated, such as kidney dysfunction. 

Test Purpose:

• Detect metabolic disorders like hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria (HHH) syndrome, which affects the body's ability to process nitrogen waste.
• Evaluate kidney function, as elevated homocitrulline levels may indicate impaired kidney filtration.
• Investigate autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, where homocitrulline-containing proteins may trigger immune responses.
