Tetradecanoylcarnitine
Explanation: Tetradecanoylcarnitine is a compound naturally produced in the body during the breakdown of fatty acids for energy. Elevated levels indicate fatty acid oxidation disorders including Carnitine palmitoyltransferase I deficiency, Carnitine palmitoyl transferase type II deficiency, and Very long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency. These conditions prevent the body from properly breaking down certain fats for energy, particularly during fasting or illness.
Test Purpose: Detect fatty acid oxidation disorders such as Carnitine palmitoyltransferase I deficiency, Carnitine palmitoyl transferase type II deficiency, and Very long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency.
