Isovalerylcarnitine
Explanation: Isovalerylcarnitine is a compound naturally produced in the body during the breakdown of the amino acid leucine. It plays a role in energy metabolism. Elevated levels of isovalerylcarnitine can indicate disruptions in fatty acid and/or amino acid metabolism, often associated with inherited metabolic disorders such as isovaleric acidemia.
Test Purpose: Detect isovaleric acidemia, a rare genetic disorder affecting leucine metabolism.
