3-Hydroxyisovaleric acid
Explanation: 3-Hydroxyisovaleric acid is a compound that forms during the breakdown of proteins. It is also an indicator of biotin (vitamin B7) status in the body. Under normal conditions, this compound is present in small amounts. Disruptions in the protein breakdown process can cause levels of this compound to rise. High levels can lead to neurotoxicity and other metabolic problems, including acidosis.
Test Purpose:
- Detect biotin deficiency.
- Evaluate conditions like metabolic acidosis or neurological symptoms.
