Glycine
Explanation: Glycine is a small amino acid, one of the building blocks to make proteins. It plays many important roles in the body, such as helping with the production of collagen (which keeps skin, joints, and bones strong), DNA, and energy. Glycine also acts as a chemical messenger in the brain, where it's involved in motor control, vision, and pain perception.
Test purpose: This test is often part of an amino acid panel to assess overall metabolic health, especially in people with unexplained neurological symptoms. It is also used to evaluate amino acid metabolism: Glycine levels can indicate deficiencies or imbalances in protein intake.
