Corticosterone
Explanation: Corticosterone is a hormone produced by adrenal glands (small organs above the kidneys). In humans, it is a minor glucocorticoid and primarily serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of aldosterone, which helps regulate blood pressure. In humans, corticosterone circulates at lower concentrations than cortisol, depending on timing, and has weaker glucocorticoid receptor activity. Cortisol is therefore the dominant glucocorticoid regulating stress and metabolism in humans.
Test purpose: Evaluate adrenal gland function: To check if the adrenal glands are producing the right amount of hormones. This test may be part of broader hormone testing for issues like fatigue, weight changes, or blood pressure problems.
