Explanation: Asymmetric dimethylarginine is a compound naturally produced in the body as a byproduct of protein metabolism. It interferes with the production of nitric oxide, a chemical the blood vessels need to work normally.
Test purpose:
- A dimethylarginine blood test helps assess cardiovascular disease risk, as high dimethylarginine levels can raise the risk.
- Guide treatment intervention in subjects with elevated ADMA and hypercholesterolemia or type II diabetes mellitus.
