TyG-BMI index
Explanation: TyG-BMI Index is an enhanced calculation that combines three common health measurements: triglycerides (blood fats), glucose (blood sugar), and your BMI (body mass index). It's a version of the TyG Index that adds your weight status to get a more complete picture of how well your body processes energy and responds to insulin.
Test purpose:
- Predict diabetes risk: More accurately identifies people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to looking at blood sugar or weight alone, especially useful for people with higher BMI.
- Assess heart disease risk: Better predicts cardiovascular problems than traditional risk factors, particularly in people who are overweight or have metabolic issues.
- Screen for fatty liver disease: Helps identify non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, especially in people with higher body weight where this condition is more common.
Note: Universal clinical reference ranges have not been established for this calculated marker. Available cutoffs vary by population and clinical context. This value should be interpreted alongside individual component values, clinical history, and other relevant biomarkers.
