Cholesterol Non-HDL
Explanation: Non-HDL cholesterol measures all the “bad” types of cholesterol in the blood. Because it includes all cholesterol types that can cause plaque buildup, non-HDL cholesterol is considered a strong indicator of heart and blood vessel health.
Test purpose: The Non-HDL cholesterol test helps:
- Assess overall risk of cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke
- Provide a more complete picture of atherogenic cholesterol burden than LDL cholesterol alone
- Guide treatment decisions, especially in patients with high triglycerides, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome
- Monitor response to lipid-lowering therapy
