Apolipoprotein B/Apolipoprotein A1 Ratio
Explanation: ApoB/ApoA1 ratio is a marker used to assess cardiovascular risk by evaluating the balance between the “good” and “bad” cholesterol-carrying particles in your blood.
Test purpose: The ApoB/ApoA1 ratio helps:
- Assess cardiovascular disease risk more accurately than traditional lipid panels, especially in patients with normal LDL but multiple small, dense LDL particles
- Evaluate the balance between atherogenic (plaque-promoting) and anti-atherogenic (protective) lipoproteins
- Guide treatment decisions in patients with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or family history of premature cardiovascular disease
- Monitor response to lipid-lowering therapy
- Identify residual risk in patients already on statin therapy
